History

IGNOU Regional Centre-Aligarh was established as Sub Regional Centre in Feb. 2006 and upgraded as Regional Centre on 18th January 2008. The Districts of Western Uttar Pradesh covered by this Regional Centre include Aligarh, Agra, Budaun, Etah, Etawah, Firozabad, J.P. Nagar, Kashiram Nagar (Kasganj), Mahamaya nagar (Hathras), Mainpuri, Mathura, Moradabad, Sambhal and Rampur with its network of 18 Learner Support Centres. The total geographical area of the region is 42614 Sq km. which is 17 percent of the total area of the Uttar Pradesh and the population of the region as per 2011 census was reported 33944682 persons. This area has relatively low literacy which was recorded only 51.7 percent. Out of the total population of the region nearly 78 percent reside in the rural areas which is relatively higher than the National as well as State average. The region has predominance of other backward classes which constitute 54 percent of the total population of the region.

 

The Regional Centre-Aligarh is well-connected from all parts of the region through all means of transport as it is at a distance of 2Km from Railway Station and 3 KM from Bus Stand.
